Hand scanning wands and pat downs do not pose a significant threat to your body (when compared to the other types). The hand scanners are not in one place for too long a time and are passive detectors, as opposed to the active ones described in this section.
The hand scanners do operate in the 95 KHz range. The sensitivity (how close it needs to be to the body) is 6-9”. Again, this is the better option for getting through airport security if it is available.
